Grand Canyon - Rim 2 Rim Hike

This was a once in a lifetime experience. I'm so grateful we had the opportunity to do this hike and see the beauty of the Grand Canyon. It was breathtaking and the pictures don't do it justice. Our group camped at the South Rim on Friday night. We got there early enough to scope out the trailheads, drink hot chocolate and set-up camp in the 30 degree weather before heading to bed. We got up at 3:15am on Saturday and were on the trail at 4:05am. We took South Kaibab trail and reached Phantom Ranch by about 7:30am. The weather was perfect, overcast and about 60-70 degrees at the bottom. We got to Cottonwood Campground at 10:00am and at that point realized we would not be seeing our other group (they detoured to Ribbon Falls). The last few miles were killer, we had gained a total of approximately 6,000 ft of elevation and it started to rain and the trails were really muddy. Alex and I made it to the North Rim Trailhead at 1:55pm. We were pretty excited to do the whole hike in less than 10 hours. We were pretty tired and had did not eat or drink as much as we thought we would, so we stopped at Jacob Lake to get the world famous cookies. Everything went so well, I'm sad it's over.
